Bringing the Ocean Within Reach
A Local Project with Lasting Impact
Inspiring Salinas Valley middle school students through ocean science, discovery, and experiences that can shape their future.
An opportunity just miles away can still be out of reach.
Over the past two years, 296 seventh-grade students from the Salinas area have participated in Ocean for Youth, including 146 students in 2024 and 150 in 2025.
Through the program, students travel to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where classroom science becomes something they can see, explore, and experience firsthand.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium provides its educational field-trip programming at no cost to participating schools. But a free program does not mean a free field trip. Transportation and other costs of bringing students from Salinas to Monterey still need to be covered.
That is where Ocean for Youth and our community make a difference.
